What is Sopa? | Save the Internet!

Have you ever had to do a report on something in school and your sitting there, on that dinosaur machine, starring at that minute glass spinning every few seconds? You decided to look up pictures first, procrastinating of course, and notice a picture that would look amazing on your front page; so you click on it only to discover that your school blocked it! This is what will eventually happen on your personal computers if you DO NOT oppose SOPA and speak out. For those that are not aware, SOPA or Stop Online Piracy Act, is a bill that the Congress is trying to pass in order to censor websites that you go on resulting in harmful regulations on American businesses. Although the government sees this as an 'act of kindness' and 'doing their duty' the US government has this extremely wrong. Now you might not care as much about SOPA but believe it or not SOPA could be the very reason your favorite sites like: Tumblr, Google, YouTube, Wikipedia, just to name a few are going to be affected; leaving you with a fraction of the results and enjoyment of the Internet. An example of what can happen is if you catch your baby cousin talking for the first time and upload it to YouTube and there is music playing in the background, the US government/YouTube will have to take your video off YouTube simply because you don't own that content. All in all, SOPA is an anti-piracy bill developed for only good intentions, but clearly the US government is opposing the First Amendment. To protest against SOPA major companies like: Google, Wired, Wikipedia, Craigslist, just to name a few are going against SOPA and hopefully with your help we can put an end to this nonsense. To stop SOPA you can either click here and sign a petition against SOPA from Google or contact your state representative from Wikipedia's website by clicking here.
